W00t! It’s weekend!
Just a quick post to let you guys in on that secret ;) Oeh, and that I am getting a Technet subscription :D w00t w00t!
Today went pretty good. Did some more optimizing on the new servers and optimized File Server Resource Manager, set the email-alerting, configured a soft-quota so we are good to go. Soon we’ll start work on the Exchange server and get that up and running :)

Yes!
For 10 seconds. Then it pisses you off as you notice that it hogs CPU-cycles. On my Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz (that’s a dual-core CPU BTW folks) it constantly hits from 0 to 20 or 30% of CPU-cycles. It’s not constant, but just enough that I can notice it during my all-out-destruction games. After some research I tried a MPEG background, as opposed to the WMV I had earlier. It did drop the CPU-usage but it was still unacceptable.
The usability is Z-E-R-O, and yes I’ll admit that it looks great and runs smoothly (AHEM!) but after the ‘wow’-factor the fun really stops right there. I personally completely love the Aero interface and all of it’s perks. But I don’t like Dreamscene. Not untill they drop the CPU-usage down to below 5 or 10%.
Anyways as you might have guessed I managed to play a game of Supreme Commander yesterday and it was noticably faster – albeit jittery. However I think that was due to Dreamscene running in the background. So w00t w00t! :)
At work today I installed a very nifty program called Healthmonitor on 4 servers. And I must admit that it runs like a charm. Since it can hook straight into the event-viewer it really eases my job as a Junior System Engineer. I also optimized the DFS and fileshares on the 2 new servers and have enabled replication (I love Windows 2003 R2 ;) And a lot more. I also finalized another HP training so that went smooth. Last, but not least I also got a new contract! YEAH! Another year. Plus in addition I can take the days off in order to get my drivers license. And a nice increase in salary :D
So all-in-all today has been a good day, and it’s far from over. Just need to cleanup the laundry and do the dishes. Yes, again… :(

Well I just had a good read (and laugh) over at JohnChow.com. Aparently I have been making mistakes on 3 out of 10… Well, after I quickly fixed a few things only 2 :-) And on one of them (the updating) I am working… Yes yes…
Anyways, today work was… weird to say the least. In the afternoon we went over towards one of our customers and kicked them over onto their new servers. And low-and-behold, it works…. Mostly. A few quick fixes and patches later (and a good 5 hours…) it all worked like a charm :) So that’s another job well done!
Freaking hell… It’s 9 in the evening already. And I haven’t even relaxed for a second. Hmmph, again with the ironing and laundry – any more of this and I am going to start my own laundry-shop ;) I also haven’t gotten round to play a game with the new videocard – shame on me! And in a few minutes I am off to do some quick learning again. Gonna get my learn on! So no gaming again.. :(
Today’s gripe… if any is;
duplicate songs in my playlist!
!%# I hate hearing the same song twice in a row. Especially if it sucks. That forces me to open up Foobar, delete the damn song… twice! Mjuh. You know, a lot of MP3-players claim to have advanced sorting/cleaning features but I have yet to come across one that actually removes the duplicates. Yes I am in a luxury problem, I know. Shut up ;)
Well, 2 more weeks and February will be over. Still no word on my new contract, if any…. :( Gah. I guess I need to remind them again. Which I, to be honest, detest. I hate it. I abso-freakin-lutely hate it. I hate having to remind people to take care of business if they promised and absolutely reaffirmatively positvely assured me that it would be done within the week. On two occasions! GAH! Maybe I should just accept it… Maybe not. Whatever ;) Stop being such a smartass.

Well that’s Monday for you. I had a pretty standard day all-in-all where time flew by without me even realizing it. I also received my new videocard today (see below) and as I suspected; installation went with a breeze. Overall I went from a system-score of 4.0 to 4.3. How’s that for ironic? Mind you, I suspect the drivers for my X1650 are still a bit immature (as ATI – or should I say AMD? – has proclaimed to stabilize their drivers before optimizing them) But all in all, it’s working fine. In the package they included a DVI-I to VGA so I should be able to set up a dual monitor again. However, finances keep killing me :)
Today I also did another batch of the laundry. Ugh! I hate doing that, even though I love the smell of fresh and clean laundry. Bit of a paradox I guess.
At work I managed to get a few things sorted, and I hope to have resolved a long-standing – and VERY annoying issue with one of the servers. Though, in my defense, it is a low priority test-server it still had to be done. After having read the weekly reports on the firewalls – someone has to ;) I managed to get a few minutes in tweaking the new servers at one of our customers. They are running up-to spec and I have complete faith in the oncoming switch-over from the old servers to these new ones.
Today I tried to access the HP learning again, only to realize my personal note in Outlook (where I store the student ID) had been erased. Thank goodness the note was still saved on Webmail :) I rearranged a few things on my HP Learning plan and should start on it tomorrow. I opted for a more technology driven learning instead of a HP one. Even though I really would love to attain the HP certification (APS for example) I think I should get the basics first :) I have a few left I want to do (about 8 courses, with 2 hours set per) so that should keep me busy for a while.
On the website-news I just repaired/optimised the database of this place, so I hope to see a little speed increase. I may jump over to PHP5; provided it should yield a noticable speed-increase. I will however have to figure out how that will affect some of the ‘hosted’ stuff I have on here. But then again, as I recall they claimed to have jumped over now to their own site ;) I’ll get in touch with them shortly.
All-in-all I am feeling ‘ok’ but tired. But then again, considering the amount of stuff I got done today that may just be a normal thing ;) Well, I am off – take care!
Well, I woke up at 4 today. In the afternoon… Oeps! Then again, I was pretty tired when I went to bed, and then some. So I guess I needed the sleep. Apart from that I haven’t really done much today. I did however play Supreme Commander (the demo) again, and I must admit it’s a great game – eventhough I keep getting my ass kicked all the time :)
I also finished the first batch of the laundry – did I mention I sometimes hate ironing? Well I do. Just made myself some coffee and right now I am contemplating what to do next. Since I woke up pretty far in the afternoon today I didn’t eat and drink as much as I should. Then again, I can’t over-do it as well. I’ll guess I’ll grab a few snacks later on. Nothing like a bowl of cruesli and fresh milk :)
The weekend was not that bad to be honest, eventhough I came to a realisation regarding someone I thought had feelings towards me. Well, shit happens huh? No worries, we’ll be fine :) Apart from that I had a few more compliments – as in, people still not believing me when I say I am 25 years old. Damn near 26 as well… ;) So I’ll guess I’ll take that as a compliment.
Tomorrow we might be visiting one of our customers to get some more work done on their new servers. I also intend to sort a few things out, which are a bit overdue… (oops!) But apart from that, nothing major.
